Youth Volunteer Corps and Volunteer Terrace Present CANstruction!
You’re invited to join YVC’s first event CANstruction on August 12, 2017 during the Street Fair Medley!
CANstruction is a food drive that includes fun designs and builds competitions, literally! Teams of community members, youth, organizations, agencies, corporations, schools, and anyone is invited to get together to CANstruct sculptures, buildings, or structures made entirely out of donations, non-perishables, and full cans of food (Don’t forget about pet food too!) The food can start being collected prior and up to the event to ensure the most “building blocks”.
After the structures have been built, the creations will be on display for the general public to view as compassionate art exhibits and as a competition for the most unique structure!
At the end of the competition, 100% of the food will be donated to our local food banks and animal shelters.
The idea of Canstruction was inspired by a group of New York Architects and Engineers in 1992. These architects introduced Citywide Canstruction Competitions as a way to unite the design, engineering and construction industry. Through this innovative and fun exhibition, the Architecture & Engineering community was able to provide art and inspiration to the local community as well as canned food to local hunger relief organizations. Today Cansculptures® are created by Industries of various backgrounds including Construction, Agriculture, Education & PR firms to name a few.
